Kitchen Window

Saturday, March 31, 2007

The view from my kitchen window. This was taken with a large f-stop, f/4.5, creates a shallow depth of field, which made the screen dissappear. A fun photography trick.

Playing with Exposure

Taken with correct exposure: f/3.5 SS:250

Taken to under expose: f/3.5 SS: 160

Taken to over expose: f/3.5 SS: 640

All taken with a high ISO, 640. I forgot it was that high from some inside photos the other day. I am actually going with the old fashion technique as writing things down as I take the pictures. Just looking at the data on the computer isn't that helpful to me.

Moment of Silence

Friday, March 30, 2007

It was a sad day yesterday. I came home to find my poor little mac overheated and frozen. The hardrive fan was running, but nothing worked. I turned it off, and let it cool down. Pressed the magic power button, only to get a grey screen and an odd 'clicking' sound. I waited and nothing happened. I turned it off, waited and tried again. This time I got a flashing folder with a question mark on my screen.

I knew the signs, it was dead. At least it was painless, for the computer. I took it to the Apple store. The tech guy commented that the drive was really dead. He couldn't boot my machine using his. He was impressed that my photos were on an external drive, glad he didn't have to give me any tissues. lol

So my macbook is awaiting a new hard drive, I am using Michael's to post this. I should have mine back tomorrow. Another bonus with Apple, they are close and do repairs in house. Of course on the way home I started to list what I lost... banking info, bookmarks, lesson plans, lesson plan template, classroom games & activities, itunes and my taxes...ugh!!! I do know of the utilities to get all my songs off my ipod back to my computer, so those are safe, some of the school stuff is still on the old Dell. As for the rest.... may it rest in peace.

Photography

I started an online photography class this week. 6 weeks, one lesson each week. Amber Ludlow Photography is sponsoring the class. I am excited. I really want to take phenomenal photos and know classes are necessary to do that. Plus actually taking photos as often as possible.

Oh yeah, I need to do my taxes this weekend. Don't know wy I have procrastinated this year.

Sunday Night TV

Sunday, March 25, 2007
Planet Earth in high definition! This series looks stunning, and being able to watch it in HD will be great. It will be three hours tonight, but that is ok. My other shows are set to record, I can watch them tomorrow. If you like animals and nature at all, tune into the Discovery Channel tonight at 8:00.

Great Day

Saturday, March 24, 2007
Amelia had a performance with the middle school flag team at noon. We got lunch and went to the Snyder's. They have two new kitens, three months old, tiny things. Adorable though. Hung out for awhile. Then went to the mall. Amelia has been wanting a t-shirt from Areopastle, but I wouldn't pay $20 for it. Well it was on sale, she bought that and a sweatshirt. Then we got her a Roxy tote bag for her 'stuff'. She is at a friends for a sleep-over. Michael & I are going to watch a movie.

Fabulous Friday!

Friday, March 23, 2007
My lesson plans are written for next week! Yay me. I just need to type them up. Next week is 4 days.... then Spring break. I have conferences on Wednesday evening and half day on Friday. It should go quickly.

Wonderful Wednesday

Yes, it is Wednesday. Not much else to say than that. What does Wednesday mean? We go out to eat. I need to start writing lesson plans for next week. Not much else.

I am reading!!

Monday, March 19, 2007

Reading is a favorite past-time. I just hate to put down an unfinished book, so I tend to wait until summer to read, or I don't get much sleep. I have had The Tenth Circle for several months now, waiting for a chance to read it. I took advantage of my hours on a bus this weekend and opened it up. I finished it this evening. I enjoyed the book. As the mother of a pre-teen, I admit to identifying with the father at times. A good book, worth the time to read it.

I also picked up two more Jodi Picoult books this weekend. Can't wait to read them.

Long Weekend!!

Wow!! The guard did fabulous this weekend at Regionals. They placed 4th in pre-lims. Although they did not go to finals, they improved their score once again.
Even though Amelia's part is small, I love that she is part of such a dedicated group of girls.

What we are doing???

27th Parallel Winter Guard, that's what. Amelia is a part of this winter color guard. She is an actress in the show. This year's theme is
"REMEMBERING THE CHILDREN OF TEREZIN"
A story of a day in the life of the children of the Terezin Concentration camp during WWII. Join us as we explore their music, their art and more importantly, their hope for a better future.

The team competes January through April in local competitions. Which usually means a Saturday out of town. She is really enjoying it. These are just a couple shots from a recent competition.

And Such

Thursday, March 15, 2007
Well, my title does say photos and such, so it is not solely for photos. So I guess I need to start adding the 'and such'.
